I have the LaCie 250GB drive "Design by F.A. Porsche". It is quite a good drive.

My favorite external hard drive is made by Smartdisk and is called the Firelite and Firefly lines... Head over to SmartDisk and check out the prices!

Recently I found some tests of external boxes. The DVico and the icecubes were best (for 3.5 inch drives).

I personally use a sarotech hardbox because it has the power supply integrated. It performs great but is a little loud because of a poor fan. The drive I put inside is a samsung spinpoint 160GB/7200 RPM disk which is perfectly fast and silent.

For 2.5 inch cases the one from DVico (Momobay) is perfect. I have a Toshiba 40 GB drive inside, but hitachi will do equally well.

Generally you find these answers in the peripherials forum.

Just go to newegg.com and find a firewire one that fits your needs. Then buy a HD from somewhere. I bought my HD case off of newegg and love it.

Has anyone found an enclosure that can handle both a 3.5" HD and 5.25" cd drive?
