This could sound strange but itīs completely true, my hard disk has completely disapeared, disk utility will not find him, norton either, and about my computer makes the same thing. But curiously when I take the disk out of the powerbook and use it in my external firewire box it will mount with all of its files correct and I can even restart my computer from it. But no reaction when I try to use it as internal drive. seems the computer canīt see the bus anymore. Any idea? Thanks

The machine is a Powerbook G4 Titanium 800 Mghz
The disk is whatever, Iīve tried with three differents and none of them works, what can I do?

Either the controller in the PowerBook got fried (take a look at the System Profiler) or the connector cable is faulty.

Iīve also tried different jumper settings in my desesperation but no result at all, no disc at all, I donīt even think ac power is getting to the disk, same as if the bay was empty

Another suggestion- the connector on the board. Make sure nothing is shorted out there. I had somehow gotten some sort of deposit in the connector on the mobo which I beleive was shorting two of the pins, and had the exact same problem you are describing. I took a q-tip and some 91% Isopropyl alcohol, and used to to clean out the connector. let it dry, and it worked fine ever since.

Do you have any means of measuring the power leads in the connector cable?
