I've got a 12" PB which is behaving perfectly except for one thing: there's a noticeable (though not dramatic) dip on the left side of the keyboard, around where the F3/F4 keys are. Is there a way to level the keyboard out without taking the whole system apart?

I'd been thinking that maybe a plastic stick slipped under the keyboard tray might do it, but I'm rather loathe to do it (assuming I can even get it in that far) unless there's a real shot at fixing things.

And before you ask: as far as I know, Apple likely wouldn't cover the keyboard, since it's purely a cosmetic hiccup rather than something that actually affects the behaviour of the system. If someone has an experience to the contrary, however, please let me know...

Isn't this the place where the keyboard is screwed to the case? IIrc you have to remove the F3/F4 keys in order to remove the keyboard.

I think if you take it to an Apple store a Genius might take the keyboard off and check it out for ya, it couldn't hurt and maybe just reseating it will fix it. I have noticed no dip in my 12" Rev B.

No Apple Store around here (although there's a 3rd-party place that *might* be able to help).

What I'd really like is if there were some online documentation that was more specific. I'd hate to take keys off unnecessarily!

I've heard from someone else that the F1/F2 and F11/F12 keys need to be removed, and then you can unscrew the top of the keyboard to remove it like you would on an iBook. I may give that a shot when I have some free time.

Commodus, I was looking through the service mannual for your notebook and you are correct about how the keyboard is taken off. If you pop off the f1 and f2 keys along with the f11 and f12 keys (pop them off from left to right as not damage they connectors for the keys to the actual board) the keyboard then can be unscrewed and reseated after a ribbon cable is dissconnected. In terms of warranty (if you have one), this would void it if you somehow damaged either keyboard or the ribbon cable permanetly.

Don't forget about the third screw, a black one, found under the RAM door to release the keyboard. It is possible that the tabs at the bottom of the keyboard (below the option and cursor keys) are not inserted correctly. Remove the screws and try reseating the keyboard. This is a pretty easy repair if that is all it is.
