In the package with the Manual and other information that came with my PB I got two sheets of coupons? One is for iLife and the other is for Panther. It says on them that they are proof of purchase coupons from Apple and that I should not get rid of them.

What are they used for? Can I go to an Apple store and present to them one of these coupons and recieve the CD/DVD of the said software? Or do I need them if I buy an upgrade down the road?

There are 3 coupons per page for each of the two softwares. Anyone know what they are used for?

Those coupons have been worthless for at least 5 years. I don't know why Apple still ships them.

That's true for European customers. YMMV.

You should be able to use them to get the Panther update package, and save some bucks on the retail version of Panther. My newest ibook, bought in December, came with the drop-in Panther pack in the box, but that's just because the reseller was nice about it. Otherwise, I would have had to turn them in and spend the $20 to order Panther under the upgrade deal.

If you have a local Apple store, they can tell you what they're worth. Also, look on apple.com to see if they're useful (if there's some kind of Panther upgrade deal for those folks who bought one of the transition computers).

They're by no means "worthless". I used them to order X 10.1 after I bought my Pismo new. And I used them to upgrade to 9.0.4 after I got my Strawberry iMac and blueberry iBook. So they have some value if you act with them at the right time.
He can be fixed -- you can't.

I see, I see.

What exactly is the panther update package? Is it a CD of the released updates, or the upgrade DVD that will upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3, or even the upgrade DVD that will go from 10.3 to 10.4?

Doesn't really matter for me I guess though since I can get Panther OEM for $20 via educational discount. I imagine Tiger will be offered for the same price when it is released. Also got Office 2004 that way

When you just bought your PowerBook the DVDs that ship with it already contain Panther and iLife '04. The coupons are a "proof of purchase" that you own these two products.

During the last updates you could only get cheap upgrade cds when you bought your machine when the new OS version was already out and your machine shipped with an older version of the OS. You needed the serial number of the machine to get those upgrade cds, not the coupons.
