New to Mac so please bear with me....
Been having a problem typing a few characters ie. ' " / ?
Not being familar with my new powerbook, I thought it was just me not slecting the right combination of, fn or ctrl .... Have recently discovered that if I change to the US setting vs. the Canadian setting. The keyboard functions as it should. If I change the icon on the top/right of my screen back to Canada.... the keystroke ' turns into è and " turns into È . there is a few other funky keystrokes as well.
Anybody shed any light on my dilema... Thanks.

the problem is that the settings are misnamed. the "US setting" is just the standard QWERTY layout that most people in north america use. if you want the single and double quotation marks to be in the place you expect them to be, use the US setting (and put up with the minor annoyance of associating another country's flag with the normal keyboard layout).

the canadian setting is more useful if you're going to be typing in french though, as you don't need to use the option key with the appropriate vowel for accents. you should also note that if your keyboard has a "canadian" layout, the labels on certain keys will not match which characters they input when using the standard QWERTY keyboard.

Activate the Keyboard Viewer in System Preferences>International>Input Menu. When you click your flag icon in the menubar you will see an option to "Show Keyboard Viewer" - doing this will let you see what the key bindings are for the different keyboard layouts you can select (and also what the modifier keys will input - press e.g. option/alt with Keyboard Viewer in view to see what I mean).

O.K thankyou...
Is there a Canadian keyboard layout? Or is the Canadian layout the "french" canadian layout that I seem to remember the option when I was ordering the powerbook. Also, small deal but is their an option or "hack" the modify the country flags?
