I have a 17" 1GHz powerbook G4 with 1024 DDR Ram already installed. This the first generation of 17" Powerbook G4s. Now this website caught my attention, telling me that the max of ram insertable in my machine is 2 GB instead of the 1 GB that Apple said it could hold. Does anyone know if this is a hoax or if I really can put 2 GB of ram into my first gen 17" PB?

Thanx!

I think it might be possible. There were examples of machines able to load more RAM than Apple states in the technical data sheets, e. g. the 6100 PPC: Officially it could handle 72 MB (2* 32MB + 8 MB soldered onto the MoBo), but today itīs clear that the machine is actually able to use 520 MB !

My 1GHz 17inch powerbook has 2GB Samsung memories. It works flawlessly. But the hardware test DVD accompanying the powerbook causes a trouble when performing a test. But with current hardware test DVD accompanying 12 inch powerbook, 17inch powerbook passed test 2GB memory.
