I had to look at your post to figure out what you meant by a "firewall hub." You later mentioned "firewire," so I have to guess that you meant a "firewire hub."

Anything that's IEEE 1394 compliant should work. There are a number of choices because of the variety of applications. If you're just running an iPod and a video camera, for example, you can probably get by with a non-powered hub, since most, maybe all, digital video cameras only use the data lines and don't pull power from their firewire connection. If you're planning on running an external DVD burner off this hub, you'll either need a power supply for the external drive, or a powered hub.

I can't recommend any brands, because I don't have any experience with hubs, but there are several well respected brands that I'd look at; Belkin comes to mind right off...

Good luck.

yes i meant firewire i edited the post

so i am guess i can't use a self bus firewire hub if i want to get a firewire HD

as for USB hubs can anyone reconmend one and why or are they all just the same

i probably will get a self bus one, no need for one with a power-supply

I use a Kenssington(sp) portable hub for usb. I have 4 devices plugged into it (printer, bluetooth mouse, charger for BT mouse, and palm cradle). I don't have a FW hub, but I have a FW external HD and I daisychain an external FW DVD burner. Hope that helps a little.
