Ok, so I recently sold my 12" iBook to get a 15" Powerbook instead.
However, the Macrumors Buyer's guide recommends: "Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle"
Is this recommendation something I should follow?
How likely do you think it is that there'll be a PB upgrade the next month or so?
And would this upgrade be worth waiting for?
I need your advice on this..

if you want it now, get it now
if you need it now, most certainly get it now
if you want to wait, then wait
if you can and want to wait, then wait
there will ALWAYS be something better down the road.
right now theres simply rumors of the dual-core (is that the term?) g4 coming in to the powerbooks, theres no sign of a g5 on the horizon, so really whatever they do upgrade won't be majorly worth it

Basically, it depends on how good a deal you can get on the current models, how much you need the performance difference of a hypothetical new model, and whether or not you can be without a PowerBook for several weeks.
Amazon.com, for example, has a $150 rebate on powerbooks, and since they don't charge sales tax for many people, it can end up being much cheaper than buying direct from Apple. If you can get a deal on one of the current 15" models, it might not be a bad idea.
I don't expect there to be a major upgrade any time soon (by that I mean a Powerbook G5 or a new enclosure, etc), but there will probably be a speed bump and maybe a better video card fairly soon. If you think these changes would be important to you and you can live without a Powerbook until the new models come out (keeping in mind that it could be a while) then you might want to wait.

I'd hold on for the next rev, you don't wanna spend lotsa cash right now and then feel bad about not having the best a month later. I don't see a reason not to wait at this point, unless you really need it for something. And if you really want a PB in your hands now, then by all means go for it.

Actually I'm planning to use my ADC Student Hardware Discount for this purchase - so I'm getting a pretty good deal on pretty much everything from Applestore.

In that case, it might be worth waiting, assuming you can live without the Powerbook for a few weeks or possibly longer.
