I'm working with a dual usb iBook 500 and I've been having an interesting problem. It started when i replaced a dead hard drive. Everything went smoothly on the replacement of the hard drive, but when i was done it all went wrong. The iBook booted just fine after installing the new hard drive. Since it was a new hard drive i was reformating and installing OSX. When the installation was about a third finnished the computer powered off. The battery was full and the computer was plugged in. After this it would not power up. I tried all of my minor tricks to get it started and nothing worked.
I took the battery out and unplugged it for about half an hour. The computer would then start up agian. I once again began the install not knowing what was wrong or what to do next. This time the computer shut down about two thirds the way through.
I have tried all of apples suggestions for when a computer will not power on (removed additional ram, reset button, periferals) except to replace the DC board and/or logic board. I have not done this because i can still get the computer to boot and this suggests that neither of these are the problem.
Any suggestions would be much appriciated.
