I've been busy with end of summer stuff but I promised to give an update on my Powerbook order.

I won't bother with a play by play report, but suffice it to say that my PowerBook G4 17" arrived in a timely manner, in Apple's customarily elegant packaging, and is in perfect condition. I've only been using it for a few days as I was out camping and travelling the last few weekends. This is without a doubt the best computer I have ever used. The widescreen display is magnificent, the keyboard is firm and crisp, and the size isn't at all daunting. Yeah it's big, but it's so thin and light weight for it's size that I have no problem carrying it around and am typing away at my local wireless cafe this very minute. It runs cool and quietly and the fan only comes on when running a game (Jedi Outcast) at high quality and high res - and it runs smooth!) I'm really, really glad I went with the 17" over the 15".

I'll be installing the 2 GB of RAM that just arrived yesterday from Outpost.com, but even with only the 512 MB of factory RAM, this machine really flys! I've not used the G5's yet, but the PowerBook G4 1.5GHz is fast, surprisingly so.

I forgot to mention that there was one problem. The AC adapter didn't work, but one trip down to the local Apple Store and problem solved with a new adapter. I had the same problem with my iBook, as I recall, and had to have it's AC adapter replaced. Other than this very minor issue, this purchase has been hassle free and really very pleasant.

I bought the Brenthaven shoulder bag on that trip to the Apple Store, but for scootering around with my PowerBook, I'll be buying a backpack. Any suggestions?

Get a Booq Bp3 bag. It's a good amout of money but the best backpack I have ever owned. And, I personally thinks it looks a lot better than those solid black Brenthavens, etc.

Right on, LORL!

I've been to the Booq website and like what I saw. I use the Brenthaven bag for bizness calls, but the booq bags look especially suited to 2 wheeled moto transport.

Better yet, check out the messenger bags that are made by Timbuk2. Very customized and I really like the computer sleeves that they make. Very thick and durable foam to protect your new PB 17".

Congrats on your new machine!
The 17`s are awesome. Had mine for over a year now and still love it.

For backpacks, you should also try the Tom Bihn Brain bag.

I've got the Brenthaven, but I wish I had the Tom Bihn bag.
