i was wondering if the Sony SDMHS53W is compatiable with the 14" iBook, and if it is would i need to buy and extra cable?

It should work pretty well with the iBook assuming it has a standard VGA connector. iBooks are sold with a mini-vga to vga cable adapter in the box.

Out of the box the iBook can only output 1024x768. There is a patch you can run to unlock other resolutions and enable screen spanning - which lets you have two seperate desktops (one on each screen), rather than just mirroring what's on the iBook's screen.

Make sure first that your iBook is capable of spanning. Dire consequences can come of it if not.

Is the link mentioned used for both the spanning hack and the ability to change the output resolution? What control do I have in terms of removing the software if I don't want it? Can I just change the output resolution with messing with spanning? thanks in advance anyone that has tried this and has answers.
