Hi All,

When I put my iBook to sleep (a G3/800 dual USB) to swap in a new charged battery, the machine powers down (acts like there is no backup battery) and I have to boot from scratch.

I've always had PowerBooks in the past, and could easily swap in new batteries as necessary while the machine was asleep.

This is my second of this model of iBook (first stolen) with the same problem.

Is this an iBook thing? I would've thought that this was unique to my first machine (some sort of flaw that I could and did live with), but now that my second machine is acting the same way, I begin to wonder.

It's a huge pain having to shut down the machine and all running apps just to swap in a new battery, anybody have any advice or solutions?

TIA for any help,

Chas

My sister has an iBook G3 600.

It does the same thing when swapping batteries.

In fact, it has been acting really wierd with power management in general. I've tried resetting PMU and even bought a new used battery that should have been fine. That battery and the old one goes from full to zero in no time. Very annoying.

This is not a "problem" -- just the way things are. None of the iBooks or 12" powerbooks have the additional battery necessary to preserve the contents of RAM when swapping a battery. Yes, it is a pain.

good to have confirmation of what I suspected, thanks.

I'm surprised that the 12" PowerBook has this problem, I'd be pretty p*ssed if I had one and couldn't swap the battery in the field (I was going to get one, but that's a deal-killer).
