I have a top-of-the-line 15"er. Is the SuperDrive technically able to write to DVD+R and DVD+RW disks, only prevented from doing so by Apple's firmware?

Who manufactures that 4x SuperDrive, anyways? Matshita or something like that?

Oddly enough, the "erase" option is available for DVD+R disks on the PowerBooks, while you can't write to them...

Any hints, insight appreciated.

"Matshita" is short (8-character limit) for "Matsushita Denki".

Matsushita are also National and Panasonic, among a lot of other brands.
