I have a 17" PB- 1st edition. I am considering going to school for my masters at SCAD. Pretend, $ is not tight- but limited. My question...

option 1
keep the 17", add on a 12" for the road and a 20" monitor at home

option 2
sell the 17", replace with a 15" and a monitor

option 3
sell the 17", replace with a 12" and monitor

In other words, should I keep the 17" at home if I buy a smaller model for the road? Or is it worth it? Not sure how much the sale of the 17" would offset the new purchase, nor am I sure whether to get a 12 or 15 for class. Assume the monitor is a given, I'm too accustomed to that at work currently to give it up.

I don't think option 1 makes much sense. I personally find that having one computer at home and on the road is one of the biggest advantages of PowerBooks.

Personally, I'd sell the 17" and put the money toward a 12" or 15" with a nice big monitor for use at home. A 12" and a 23" cinema display is a very nice combination since it gives you a large screen (plus smaller supplementary screen if you like) to use at home, but still lets you be very mobile when out and about.

I'd also say sell the 17" and buy the 12" and a 23" display. I'm considering selling my 15" and buying the 12"/23" combination for a good mobile and home solution.

keep the 17" and get a G5 iMac.
Make most sense to me. You have your portable-ish and a desktop with a bit more power to get ish done quickly.
I see no reason to have another laptop and I think the 17" is worth more to you then you will be able to sell it for. I'm in the same position with my 1Ghz Titanium.

Good luck with ur decision which ever way you go

Thanks for the input.

My biggest thing with the 17" is that it is NOT very portable. I can't imagine sitting in a class and "whipping out" a laptop that is bigger than my desk. I just love it at home though- currently w/o a larger display to hook up...

I'd sell the 17" and get either the 12" or the 15"
Check both out and see if you can see the text on the 12" If everyhting is comfortable, I'd say go with the 12". If your having trouble with the size of the text then the next best option would be the 15"

I'd sell the 17" and get a 12" PB or 12" iBook and a 1.8 17" iMac, seems like a great combo IMHO.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)
