Just received a mailing from Apple that the Cram and Jam Discount does not work if you bought the laptop with an Edu discount. Is this true? Seems a bit strange, since they market the discount to students. Any others had this response, or actually get the discount?

That's crap... (If you're not pulling our leg, that is!)

Quote from Apple's site:
In addition to Apple’s student discounts, our $200 mail-in rebate (requires Adobe Acrobat reader) means you can save even more—up to $530 when you buy an iPod and a PowerBook or iBook computer.*

The asterisk refers to the caveat that you can't use Cram & Jam on the 12" iBook with a CD-ROM drive (the model offered only to education) OR with the iPod mini.

Other than that restriction, you can use it in addition to the edu discount on Powerbooks/iBooks and the edu discount on (regular) iPods.

Yeah, that's a load of something stinky.

Let's see the email text, bro. I'm thinking you misread it.

No joke, I swear. Can you give me a link to the Apple website text? It sounded crazy to me too!

Just go to the Apple store online. It's right there on the front page.

only if you buy the base model laptop and an ipod mini...from apple

* Offer excludes the 12-inch iBook with CD-ROM drive and iPod mini. Combined savings of $530 is based on $300 education discount on a 17-inch PowerBook G4, $30 discount on an iPod, and $200 mail-in rebate. Education discount varies by notebook model selected. Offer expires September 25, 2004. Terms and conditions apply.

** 10,000-song capacity refers to 40GB iPod and is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding.

† Prices quoted are for qualified education individuals, do not include taxes or shipping, are subject to change, and are listed in U.S. dollars. Product specifications are subject to change.

I can tell you that it doesn't work if you get the ADC student discount... but it's only for the normal student/teacher discount at the edu store. Also I'm not sure but I thought I read here that they had to be purchased at the same time on the same recept w/ the same order number.

Correct your right sorry about that... they sometimes split up the order. As long as you have the same order number you're good...
