This is probably a real "duh" question, but I am having a brain fart and can't remember something about my computer memory so please excuse how lame this might sound.

When I bought my new 800, G4 ibook, I purchased and installed a 512mb from Crucial. Today while I was removing it and putting it back in the Crucial box, I discovered another memory (module is it?) that I had stored there which I don't remember at all.

On the label is printed "Nanya" 128mb DDR-266Mhz-CL2.5 Is this "original" Apple memory? Did I take out the original product that came with the machine? I just don't remember. (And I can't find my reciepts easily at the moment to check the order.)

Now the reason I have taken out the Crucial memory is that I've been having a lot of kernel panics and crashes, so I'm checking if the memory is bad which has been advised in this forum.

Also, according to my computer I right now have 128 MB of built in memory. So what is this extra memory I have had stored away?

Please help jar my memory. And by the way. . .I don't do drugs, I don't inhale.

thanks,

clarat

The G4 800 came with 256mb standard. 128 of that was built onto the motherboard, the other 128 was in the memory slot. When you upgraded and put the 512 in you had to take the other 128 out, so thats what that is.

I can't even imagine how slow that runs with 128mb of ram

You know, it's not really that bad. I did put the the other 128 back in the memory slot so I'm up to 256mb and cruising along. . .actually can barely tell the difference except no crashes thus far. I'm wondering if that memory from Crucial was even working properly at all.

Mind you, I'm not doing much more than Word, email, internet. . .not an ipod user, gamer, or photo editor. . .yet.

thanks for touching in.

Bad Crucial RAM.

Time to call Crucial up and get a warranty replacement.
