I've just bought a used 500mhz g3 ibook from a friend but it doesn't have an airport card. I've started looking . . . it's not that I can't find them, but the prices are what I think are over the top
. . . especially on ebay. Any thoughts about where I might find an 802.11b airport card . . . used or new?
Or is there an alternative that I'm not aware of???
Thanks in advanced

I am interested too in any compatible airport card for ibooks dual usb. Buy at ebay is not an option in my country so i need to find any solution to replace the now dead airport cards.

another solution is to find a Sony PCWA-C150S 802.11b card. from reports on xlr8yourmac.com, these cards seem to work flawlessly in the iBooks that take the old aiport cards.
site with pics showing compatibility
another site showing the same
although, finding one of these cards may be as hard as finding an old airport card.

I too have been looking for an original Airport card.
When I did a search on EBay for Buy it Now cards I found several for under $100.00 and a few for the original price + cheap shipping.
I think it must come and go.I am trying to decide if I should get one while the getting is good or wait more.

Check your local Apple Service Center--see what they are selling them for. We can still buy these in quantity as a service part--and we get better prices on them this way.
We're selling them for $89.99. That's a card only--no manual or box.
If they give you some off-the-wall high price, have them check part number 652-0763, the five pack and re-quote based on that. I'm not going to tell you how much this will cost them. I recommended $99.99 based on the price we get these for, but the guys up front decided on $89.99.

Competeitve price it seems.

Can't you just use an external USB dongle for wireless access? Not elegant but wouldn't it work?

Depends. The iBook can *only* have an internal card. The PowerBooks have PCMCIA slots, so they can use cards that plug in to the PC Card slot--which would not work with the iBook, as it does not have one of these slots. However, the PowerBooks can use the internal Airport card as well.

hmmm, I typed a reply to this yesterday but it didn't come up (been having a lot of Forum Database Errors recently).
I spoke to a reseller about his recently and they recommended the D-Link DWL-122 USB wireless dongle. They said it works perfectly (OS X only) and is about half the size of your little finger (I think his fingers were bigger than mine though). They're selling them for about £30 so, although not as elegant as an Airport card, will save you quite a bit of cash.
