Hello - this is, obviously my first post. I have searched this board but was unable to find a solution.

I'm glad to have found this board. I need help!

This ibook (G4 dual usb) will not power up. I have tried:
- resetting the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Press the Power button to restart the iBook computer.
- but still does not work. The battery shows one light flashing, when pushing the button, and will not charge (or display it's charging) If you have a solution, please help. Thank you.

I think I know what is wrong. This is my theory based on what I have pieced together on the internet. The power manager is corrupt so it is not recognizing the power adapter - well I managed to drain the battery enough so that I cannot reset the power manager. What I need is a charged battery so that I can perform the reset.

BTW - THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

I have never seen a "PMU so corrupt it will not recognize the power adapter." On the iBooks, if you pull out the battery and the power cord, that effectively resets the PMU as there is no longer a power source.

Some important considerations:
• does the ring around the power cord light up?
• does the light change if you apply pressure to the plug at the laptop? (yes? DC-in board)
• have you tried a different adapter?
• have you tried booting the machine with just the AC cord--no battery? (success? bad battery)
• have you tried booting the machine off of a known good already charged battery?

If the AC cord and the battery are both okay, then a successful boot from a charged battery implies a bad DC-in board; a failed boot implies a bad logic board.
