I just bought an HDTV receiver for use on my regular old TV (I'm upgrading in increments). The channels that are broadcast in HD are like watching a DVD. Really clear. Obviously, I'd need a HiDef television to take the full advantage of an HDTV receiver. So, I was thinking, why couldn't I use my PowerBook's display as an HDTV? I mean, it's high definition, isn't it?

So, is there a way to go from HDTV receiver (with it's multiple outputs) to PowerBook? By the way, it's a 15" 667 Titanium.

Thanks.

don't think so, unless you can find a firewire tv tuner that takes HD quality. I don't think that it would look like HD quality though because HD is incredibly high bandwidth.

Actually it has been done before. Cable company are required by FCC to provide customer a Firewire based HD set top box (free if you are on their movie channel package as well). If you can obtain such a devide, then you can watch those HD channels by importint that stream constantly in iMovie or Final Cut Pro.

Elgato's EyeTV 500 is the only Mac-specific FireWire HDTV receiver that I am aware of.

I don't think your PowerBook is fast enough for it though. Although it's supposed to work on G4 @ 500 MHz or faster system, the frame rate was pretty crummy when I saw it running a 1.25 GHz PowerBook G4 (with fan running crazy).
