Just got back from a trip (with my G3 Lombard) and now it's not booting. It does turn on, but it freezes at about 2/3 of the way through the bootup (according to the status). I tried booting up ithout extensions and that worked. But I can't boot with extensions on. (I didn't download anything before I left.) Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas? I have OS 8.6. Thanks.

Obviously there is an extension conflict. Try to boot repeatedly adding one extension at a time to find who is the culprit.

Thanks. It's times like these I wonder why I have a mac. I have hundreds of extensions! If I had time to reboot a couple hundred times I wouldn't need a computer! I guess I'll try a few extenstions at a time to save time until I hit a problem. Strange, since I didn't install any extensions recently. Anyway, thanks.

I've been there before myself. That would be the best reason to upgrade to OSX.

You could always download and run the trial version of good old Conflict Catcher:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/2646
I have no idea how you could possibly get a complete copy at this point in time with C&G gone and all. But their old web site says you can email conflictcatcher@yahoo.com. I don't know what that will get you.
Time to go to OS X. Come on in, the water's fine!

That is NOT how you find an extension conflict!
You make a folder somewhere, let's call it Poombah, keep it handy.
Move 1/2 the extensions to Poombah and restart. If the problem occurs, you know it's one of the remaining extensions. If the problem goes away, you know the offending extension is in Poombah.
Repeat the halving process till you've narrowed it down -- it doesn't take too long!

Do what Conflict Catcher did; put the first half of your extensions in a separate folder outside the extension folder, reboot, if the conflict is still there you know it's one of the extensions left in the extension folder and the ones you took out are most-likely fine. Repeat this 'till you found the bad one.
Didn't read the last post, but that's how you do it.
