My superdrive has been having some weird issues so im gonna send it into applecare and have them replace it while they are fixing my white spots, is there any chance apple will not have any 2x drives left and I'll end up with a 4x superdrive?

I doubt it. I think there is some law that they have to keep parts for each product for at least 10 years after it has been "discontinued" or something like that (or at least it is like that for other electronics like cell phones).

the law is 7 years, and it's just regarding the support of a product, eventually im sure they'll replace with faster drives, once they run out of the slower drives. You see it a lot in HD's. If you bring your say old iMac in with a 10gb hd, the smallest you get back is like a 40gb.
