Having problem with seeing others on cam with iChat

not sure if this belongs here or in software but ill post it here first since this is the main place i check

my friend recently got a webcam(non mac user) and i was on my PC ealier talking to him with no problem on aim (seeing him on his cam)

now i am on my mac and i wanted to see if he could connect, he said that he wasnt able to, is this something with my settings, or his?

what should i do or look into?


any info is aprechiated

look and see if the latest version of iChat AV is directly compatible with AIM for windows. If it is, make sure your friend has at least the version that is required. I know that for a while, iChat AV was not compatible with AIM. This may have changed--and it will likely require a software upgrade.

i have iChat 2.1 and i believe he has aim 5.5 for pc

i do not have a cam

he does

he says where the icon is to connect with others to show video that it is grey and un-"clickable"

do i have to get a cam, or not (either way i may probably end up getting the macally icecam)

ill be going to the mac store soon so hopefully theyll be able to help me out.

Do you have the MacOS firewall activated? Because if you do, then you need to open the ports for iChat that are in the dialog tab.

I believe you do have to have a camera.
