Hi,
I'm looking to make my transition into the mac world and have been eyeing the 15" PB for a few weeks. I'm getting a decent deal on the earlier model PB G4 1.25ghz. I was wondering what was the diff between the older 1.25 v/s 1.33 which they're offering now excepting the chipset??
Do you think its worth the $$ to put in $350 more for the 'newer' version(1.33) ?
thank you in advance!

Yes, it IS worth it to go with the 1.33ghz Powerbook. I was in the same situation as you. If you go for the 1.25ghz, you're only taking a chance. I understand that you would get a better deal if you puchase the 1.25ghz but there might be a chance that you would have white spots, warped screen, and over heated battery. Some people who have the 1.25ghz don't have these problems and some do. It all depends. Plus, if your 1.25ghz model is one of those that have a battery recall, you'll have to go through all that stuff.
I bought my 1.33ghz Powerbook and I really like it. I ended up doing a built to order and had mine upgraded to a 80hd and had them install the backlit keyboard. I left the ram at 256mb and bought myself 1gb through ClubMac and installed it myself. After juggling numbers, it was only $50 more to purchase the 1.33ghz. That was using the education discount. I hope this helps.

Going from 1.25ghz to 1.33 ghz isn't going to be all that noticeable. But what about the video card? You might want to see what the difference is there too.
It is becoming increasingly more important to have a powerful GPU to handle new software (Motion) and support all the features of Tiger (corevideo etc)

I'd wait for the next update, and if it isn't that noticable I would get the Rev B for a discounted price.

I guess its a bit a matter of luck. I've had zero problems with my Rev A 15" , no issues whatsoever, for which I am very gratefull. Keep in mind that what you read here is about the people who have experienced problems with 15" PB's, and that those who don't have problems don't have threads, cause there's nothing wrong ... I just mean that you shouldn't believe 90% of the Rev A's have defects, there are problems with the first revision, but I don't think that it accounts for the majority of the Rev A PB's ... just my opinion.
Good luck on your choice ... and enjoy ! I absolutely love this machine.
