Since using Panther, I'm used to using Earthink CABLE - but now I'm on road and need to dial in on my Pismo. But the modem port doesn't show in Internet Connection" dialogue - only the IrDA port (which I've never used, actually). Nothing in network settings will get the Modem Port to surface as an alternative (only Airport, Built-in Ethernet, and IrDA).
When I go to system Profile under modem Information it say:
"Modem Model: Modem Driver Not Found."
Does that mean my modem is toast? that I should be looking for a driver to download from somewhere?
A couple years ago (Sys 9) I used to used this modem without a second thought while on dial-up. Any ideas?
OS X.3.5

Hi,
You've probably already tried looking here, but it may be worth another look...
Go to System Preferences->Network. Near the top are two drop down menus, one labeled 'Location' and one 'Show'. Using 'Show' select Network Port Configurations. You will get a list showing your available ports. Be sure that Internal Modem is checked. You can also drag it to the top of the list to have it be the first port the system sees when trying to connect to the internet.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Terry...
Unfortunately, the Modem port is *not* listed as one of the options.
I just tried restarting in Classic... selecting "modem" control panel there also gives me only the IrDA modem.
Does anyone know if this means the modem must be fried in my Pismo?

Hey again!
In that same window where you select which port to use...did you try clicking on 'New'? There you can also specify which port you want to use to set up a new port. Again, not sure if it will show there either, but it may be worth a try!

I got this problem once on my iBook. Try to reset the PRAM (press command-option-P-R during startup until you here the sound and the PowerBook restarts).

Thanks Terry & Pat...
Modem is NOT showing up, unfortunately, among the port options for "New..."
Tried the PRAM reset couple times & even the Power Manager reset (on back by physical ports of the Pismo). System Profiler also still says under "Modems": "Modem Model: Modem Driver Not Found".
Is there a place on Apple.com where modem drivers can be downloaded?

Well here's an update on updating...
Found an Apple Modem Updater after searching around apple\downloads...
It (modem updater 2.3) starts up Classic when run
The updater says "no modem can be found" - I guess that means my Pismo's modem is toast? Anyone find that these have been iffy? Should I be opening up the Pismo and looking for a loose connection? (is it on a separate board or something?)
Probably not worth investing in a modem replacement on such an old machine... anyone have thoughts / suggestions?
