I have a 40 gig external hard drive which I have formatted as FAT32 because I need to be able to swap files, images, etc between my Mac and various peecees.

However I want to also maintain a backup of my Library Folder from my User Name folder on the external hard drive as well.

I discovered that if I try to just copy this folder to the external hard drive it seems to crash half way through (aka beach ball = freeze).

So I read via Mac Help that if I create a Disk Image of the User Name/Library folder using Disk Utility (on the tool bar go Images > New > Image From Folder then in the window dialog box select Save As = Library, Where = Desktop, Image Format = compressed, Encryption = none) I can then drag this dmg file onto my FAT32 formatted external hard drive and keep it as my backup.

Is this correct?

Thanks

Soungs good. This way, everything will be preserved exaclt as it should be (In HFS+), including things like file permissions, which are important in Library folders.
