hi, i bought a alupowerbook 15" superdrive last october. it had several problems and the whole screen was replaced last chritsmas for another one, that has uneven illumination.

a week ago my powerbook came back from a second repair (had several issues). only the superdrive has been replaced for another (noisier) one.
the rest is as it was, so before i call back apple again asking for someone's head, can you please tell me if your powerbook behavies like this (so its considered "normal" for a alu powerbook):

-right speaker sounds NOTICEABLY softer than the left one. you can only hear the right one if you lay your ear on it.
-battery life of less than 2 hours. reads 3,600v
-superdrive copies files at 8x from a data CD
-screen has uneven illumination (some days is hardly noticeable, some days is quite awfull)
-screen lied when closed has a gap of half centimeter on the right side
-case was scratched in repair.
-ethernet (safari, email..) loses connection after soem hours. only a restart can solve it. (sometimes daily)

does your powerbook do that? what should i tell apple (europe). it's the second time -in a row- i have problems with a mac laptop, in 2 years. that's too much.

thx in advance

My PB has none of those problems.

Call them and tell them you want it fixed.

Good luck.

I sympathise with you. I'm currently waiting for a replacement unit for my dud 12". Service in Europe (I'm in UK) seems much worse than the US. I would however say that while we are both being put through hell at the moment, we will eventually have decent working Macs (I don't doubt that Apple will do the right thing - eventually!). Consider those using windows, which is a living hell 24/7!

imacfan,
is your powerbook serviced in the ik or in netherlands?
mine was repaired once in spanien and the second time in holland. they ignored my other powerbook problems there, and it took them 3 weeks to replace the superdrive. im really annoyed with apple service. 1 year ago it took them 3 months to repair my previous ibook.

so, does everyone elses powerbook have the same ouput level from both speakers? i thought that als theres the powe button on the right maybe the right speaker was the size of a fingernail, and so hat weniger output.

If you have a digital camera, take a picture of your screen on a bad day. I had the same problem and every time I took my PB into the Apple Store, my screen was just fine. After I took the picture, I showed the genius, and he could see the problem.

If you don't have an Apple Store, is there another service center for Apple in your area?

i have had to send my al 15" in to repair the uneven illumination. it's been about a month since i've gotten it back, and haven't had any problems since then, but it seems like those who have had the problem recur usually notice it 4-6 weeks after repair. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

i've never had any problems or experiences like the other ones you described, with the exception of the ripping speed from cd's...i haven't really noticed at what speed that happens.

Mine's been repaired in London by an authorised service provider, which were at least quick, and I do believe that the subsequent failures were not particularly their fault. What I do think is unacceptable is that they have taken nearly four weeks (and counting, including nearly 50 case notes) to get me a replacement unit which at no time during this saga has had a shipping time of more than 5 days. Now, it has apparantly shipped, but that was to my old address (have rescued it though). It's pitiful.
