I just got my first 802.11g router which works just fine with both my 12" PB and PC notebook. In Windows the machine is automatically connected as soon as I start up, but in OSX I have to go into system preferences to connect every time I boot up. Is there something I'm missing (like a "connect automatically" check box or something)/

Do you mean turn on Airport or do you mean selecting an Airport network? Go into Network preferences. Under the Airport button, select By Default, join a specific network and put in your home network. That way, every time you are near your router, you will join that network. And why are you rebooting anyway? Just sleep your machine.
