I have a 12" Powerbook, new, that will not sleep. It did a few weeks ago but now it won't sleep from the login window, from the menu bar, or when closed. I have reset PRAM, the PMU, ran disk utilities, logged in as root, deleted all the preferences, still nothing.

Any thoughts besides calling tech support? I just don't want to waste the time on the phone if it is something I'm simply overlooking. All of the rest of our Powerbooks are functioning fine.

Thanks

check activity monitor...
sounds like something is running, not allowing the pb to sleep...

maybe try disconnecting from your internet connection as well, see if the network is trying to stay open.

just some ideas...

Good ideas

I ran Top from the terminal and everything running was valid. It has the same identical setup as 2 other 12" PBs issued during the same time and they are functioning fine.

Oh the mysteries of Life!

I might just restore the setup or do a complete reinstall of the OS. Seems a little drastic though.

any peripherals connected (and on)?

try running the pb without any usb/fw devices.

try creating a test user account, see if it happens from that account.
at least you will know if it systemwide, or user-related...

last resort...try a speakerphone (for being on hold with apple)
