Is that the same power button as a powerbook ? I know
asus make boards for the ibook's etc
The UK/AUS version (A1000nA) also has a TV tuner card built in
so you can record you fav TV show onto the HDD
also 15.4-inch, 16:10 widescreen , WSGA+ 1680x1050 Res.
if i had to have a PC lappy over the 17'' powerbook this would be it.

Looks like a cheap design copy of a bunch of apples ideas. No innovation. Embarrassing, if you ask me.

Personally, I don't find it all that bad looking. Nice, clean lines, and...and...um, nice clean lines. If I had to buy a Windows notebook, though, I would still get a ThinkPad.

The most pathetic thing about it is its weight. I believe the page advertises it weight EIGHT pounds, and while I thought that was alright for a 17" laptop.. I was shocked when I found out it was a 15".

Looks like a nice notebook. Pretty good for a PC. Most of them are huge, ugly plastic abominations. This one is pretty sleek, though still pretty heavy and thick. Asus makes good stuff.
I think it's funny that around here, if someone posts pictures of a PC, it's either "OMG UGLY!" or "OMG COPYING APPLE!" Never anything else. Very mature. (though I do agree that it is using the same hinge design that Apple's been using on the iBook since 2001).

Sony, Sharp and others make some pretty nice laptops. I'd probably buy one if it ran the Mac OS. But this is not a particularly good example.

Its not that I want to trash all pcs. I have a thinkpad myself and its a great machine. Also Asus produces sturdy longliving notebook. Useful machines.
But there are two things that I don't like: One is copying. If someone takes the risk to innovate, spends the money on research and developement like apple does, and puses new things into the market, its a good and necessary thing. Only this brings us mac users the advantages that we have.
On the other hand its cheap to wait until a product sells well and simply throw together some copied details. Thats what dell does and this time also asus. That is the money saving way to go and it might bring these companies better results (since they don't have the talent or don't want to spend the money to innovate themselves). Thats what parasites do. Life on someone elses expense. But how should this work if no one innovates?
Did you notice that asus even used the same angles like apple for the photographs of the power button?
At least I hope apple has this hinge design patented.
The second thing thats funny is how important this design thing is for mac users. Its nice to have good looking toys, but sometimes I have the impression that many mac users buy their notebooks only for polishing and patting them.

Nice looking. Wish it had Blue tooth. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If I were to buy a PC laptop this would be tempting but for the lack of Bluetooth. So if someone was twisting my arm to buy a PC I would go with a 2 Ghz Centrino with a 400 Mhz front side bus and 128 MB VRAM like this.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/n...oductType=3790
That would run me about $2800 with bells and whistles, might as well buy a Mac.

That's not true. Is it so hard to believe that people can appreciate good design (which is more than just good looks BTW) in their tools? My TiBook is a very nice design and I still look at it and just say wow. But it's used daily, dragged to work and back, flipped open, carried around.
Another example: My Infiniti FX35. I love the way it looks, I love the way the interior looks. Looks were a big part of the reason I got one. But when it comes down to it, I'm not just polishing and patting it. It's a car, you drive it, carry people around. It gets the job done while looking good.

Good old vga blue, just sticking out the side and drawing attention to itself ("look at me, I'm a legacy port!") If you're going to go pc, you should get a Thinkpad, that way you got the whole Dark Side / Darth Vader theme going. Having a pretty exterior for a windoze machine is like dating a supermodel with emotional problems (xp = emotional problems).

I do keep a pc around, mostly just to keep on eye on what those bastards in Redmond are up to. IBM ThinkPads are really pretty decent as far as hardware go, and mine (X31) has an easily removable hard drive so I can use Linux, but slip in Windows when necessary.
Actually, my son has an Alienware laptop for gaming and email so I had better keep at least a passing familiarity with Windows XP.
