I have a 12" revision C Powerbook and have noticed that whilst playing games (Call of Duty at the moment!) that the GPU regularly gets up to 70°C+ (158°F). I was wondering what temperatures other people were getting because this seems stupidly hot to me, and I'm wondering how long the GPU is going to last at these kind of temperatures!

You could try an iCurve or something similar to let air circulate around the bottom of the PB. That'l help cool it off. A fan on during hardcore playing also wouldn't hurt.
My 17 runs about 130, which is cooler than my old G4 iBook ran, but it feels warmer due to the alu.
Oh, and I've also found that copying the disk image via Toast helps a little as you don't need to run the cd drive to play.

My CPU temp holds around 145F when playing games. The fan is running by then, and the temp has never risen above 147F. My 15" sits on a Targus Travelers CoolPad ($19 at Staples).

IMO, 158F is way too hot. I think the max temp threshhold is about 167F on the CPU. Better to invest in a coolpad, than a new CPU.
I gotta have more cowbell.

Yeah my CPU has never gone above 60°C (140°F), its the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit (i.e the FX 5200 Chip)) that seems to get so hot

Perfectly normal. The GPU is rated for over 100 degrees C. It never gets that hot unless something is seriously wrong. 70 degrees C is not any cause for worry.

I have the revc 12'' powerbook as well. I love to play games on it and it gets just as hot, fan is usually going full tilt, GPU runs even hotter when I have it hooked up to an external display. I have always considered this heat generation to be normal.
