This question could fit in any number of forums... but basically I'm looking for a decent pair of speakers that run on batteries, are portable, can be separated for stereo-ness, and have decent sound!

I read an article about the Virgin Boomtube in the NY Times, it was more of a news article than a product review, but it looked like the type of thing I'm looking for...

Creative's TravelSounds are pretty good in a small profile. Plus you can get them to match your PowerBook/PowerMac or iMac/iBook.
They run off battery or electricity and the batteries (AA) really last a good time.
I have H-K Soundsticks on my desk, but I'm using the TravelSound in the bedroom with my iPod. Also great when on the road.

The original IM2 Inmotion speaker set by Altec Lansing have been available on buy.com for $40 (originally $160) and perform quite well, folding book sized unit and battery powered (don't separate though).
