"New PowerPC 7448 (G4) CPU Info -"

it is said:
"Pin layout is the same so its a simple drop in upgrade
L2 cache has been increased to 1MB (from 512k)
L2 cache is now ECC capable (ECC enabled taxes the processor only 1 extra clock cycle)
Now supports Dynamic Frequency Switching (DFS) which divides the system frequency by 2 or 4 for low power modes. (Eg 1GHz / 4 = 250Mhz)
Is based on 90Nm SOI technology
Minimum frequency is 1.5Ghz"

As noone thinks a G5 will be in the next rev.

Looks like just the ticket to cover the gap before dual core CPUs become available.

Power management looks great, so it will even be able to just 'sip' when demand is low.

So long as the 'peak' heat is not an issue, this sure looks like it will drive the next edition of the Al PBs.

Forget about dual-core Powerbook G4s. It will never happen. They are too far away and by the time the silicon is ready the G5 will be ready too. There's no way Apple is going to stay on G4 when the Power Mac G5MP will be running at around 3.5Ghz. The G4 isn't 64bit future proof and doesn't deserve the 'power' monicker anymore.

We'll have one more single G4 CPU revision in winter and then move directly to the G5 in the summer after the iMac is updated. Mobile dual-core G5s might happen 2006-2007.
