I just found out that the 3rd screen that they have replaced on my 1.25GHz 15" PB is also screwed up, so they have decided to just replace my Powerbook rather than keep trying to fix it. Unfortunately, since I ordered the machine as a refurb, the store is unable to replace it directly from stock because they wouldn't get credit for the replacement. So, I have to wait for the mothership to send me a new "refurbed" Powerbook (although it will most likely be a 2-3 week wait because they don't seem to have any right now.)
I'm going to have a hard time living without my PB for 3 weeks as I am in the middle of a big development project and it is hard to take work home without it. Anyone else ever been in this situation? I am thinking about waiting until the paperwork gets all filed and trying to plead my case with Customer Relations. I didn't get anywhere with the store.

i had a similar experience. it was going to be my 3rd time sending in my PB for a new screen. i was able to get a product specialist on the phone at apple and after an hour of going back and forth, they agreed to replace my entire PB. mind you, my PB had been in for service two other times and being a freelance graphic designer this was like being without my right arm. i was probably without my PB for about 2 months total. i had to put work on hold and just wait it out.
i had explained how long i had been without my PB to the product specialist and i think that's what convinced them to give me a replacement. i had a TiBook and they replaced it with the latest and greatest 15" AlBook.
i'm very happy with my new PB and was stoked on the experience i had with apple. i wasn't happy that my PB came back the second time in worse shape than what i gave it to them in, but, they gave me a new PB, no questions asked!
good luck, you'll be happy they replaced it!

Well, it had been 1.5 weeks today since I had dropped my PB off, and the store still didn't know what the holdup was. So, I called Customer Relations. An extremely nice woman looked into it and said that the problem was that the store misunderstood the policy and had ordered me a refurb (which was out of stock) when they always replace service problem-children with brand new units. So, I will be getting a brand new 1.5 SD in a day or two. Pretty stoked about that.
I must say, even though I have been without my machine for a while I still have very good feelings for Apple's service. Everyone at the store and on the phone (especially Customer Relations folks) have been *extremely* helpful and nice to deal with. And honestly, for the amount of Apple gear I have had between home/work I have had very few problems overall. Other than my wife having one of those G3 iBooks have the logic board go out once (which was fixed for free even though it was out of warranty, even before the recall was announced) this machine is the first one that has had to go in for repair.
Now, if I could just get my Powerbook back into my hands before the weekend I'll be really happy.

To me to have my PB break down for the same problem 3 times was a really cool experience. They replaced my year old 1 Ghz 17" with a 1.5 Ghz updated model. This thing is flawless. I guess they check and recheck the new replacements to make sure the user is not in for any more bad experiences.
