I'm looking for a new harddrive for my ver. A 12" powerbook.
I would like 40-60 gigs and was thinking about getting a 5400rpm drive.
Since the Ver. A had trouble and still has some trouble with heat is this a good idea. Should I stay with the 4200rpm drives.
Looking for a good quiet drive.
Any ideas would be great.

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

How much do you want to spend?? The Hitachi 7K60 is a fantastic drive, quiet, and currently the fastest available. 60Gb 7200 RPM and costs around $160 US, I speak from experience!

If your going to upgrade I'd personally go with the 80gig 5400 just for the fact that unless your dong movie or music production really seriously the 5400 is very comparable to the 7200, and you'll have tons more space. The jump from 4200 to 5400 is big, the jump from 5400 to 7200 isn't as much.

Gotta go with Snake too. I put a Hitachi 7K60 in my TiBook 1GHz and the thing is a totally different machine now! SUPER quiet drive, no noticeable change in heat or battery life and fast, fast, FAST!

Thanks,
I'm worried that the 7200rpm HD will heat the 12" up to much. It the ver. A so it already running hot. What do you guys think, A good concern or I'm being a wimp.
Thanks again

Heat is a hard drive's #1 killer, especially in notebooks. If your fan stops working, your hard disk will usually be the first to go. If you don't need the extra speed, stick with a 4200/5400 to be on the safe side. Keep the 7200/10000 in the desktops where it's cooler.

Which isn't exactly true. When you look at the 7K60's specs, you'll see that i actually runs a bit cooler than the 4200 RPM Toshiba drive that ships with the 12".

Well, I can tell you from experience that my Ti runs absolutely no hotter with the 7K60 than it did with the stock drive, and maybe even cooler. The battery life is unchanged and the speed increase is worth every penny...not to mention that the drive is almost silent compared to the click-clack of the stock unit.
