Hi everyone,

Silly old me thought my powerbook would never fail on me since the 18 month I've had it, I didn't backup all my files, 80% of which was backed up but unfortunatly 20% wasn't. Anyway, today it started making a cracking and scratching sound when it was writing or readin certain files but started up fine. Then after several rescue missions to safe my files, i decided there wasn't any further hope. Anyway I'm now typing this as a result of a reinstall on my external fw hd. Only way I can still surf the net as this was my only machine. Is there any way I can rescue the data on my dead hd??? If that failed how easy is it to install a new HD into a rev A 17"??? Please give me sum suggestions cos I wanna cry but I'm laughing cos its dehydrates my body less... HELP ME please...

Data Rescue X is the best software for recovering data off of dying hard drives.

The new powerbooks aren't nearly as easy to get into as the G3s and the TiBooks. There are a lot of screws just to take the top case off. On some of them, you have to remove a RAM module to disconnect the keyboard from the logic board. You also have to deal with the fact that the top case doesn't want to disconnect from the front of the machine.

800 MHz TiPB owner here. I remember that with older PowerBooks one could install more RAM than the original Apple specs. I did this several times, with the G3 Wall Street / Lombard / Pismo books.

Does anyone have a success story with putting more than 1 GB RAM into a TiPB?
Since EBCDIC
Using Macs since they were Lisas.

Nope...no one makes SODIMMS larger than 512 megs that work.

thanks alot for the website, I ordered a new 80GB 5400Rpm drive and just installed it. Working fine now... Shame that I lost all my stuff that I didn't backup on my old drive. Oh well.
