Hi, I have a slow old 600mhz iBook G3 and it has no video input or output on it. I was wondering what my best option would be for inputting video from my video camera would be. I dont know if this is possible, but dont some DVD-Rs have video ports on them? would that work? I have firewire 400 on it but my camera does not....is there some sort of device out there I am unaware of to help me out??

Also, the battery life on this has dropped horrendously for some reason, it is now done to just over an over of life, even with the screen somewhat dimmed. Where can I get a battery for this? I imagine they are somewhat old and some place may have them floating around for cheap, also how can I make sure the battery life doesnt deplete so badly??

Thanks!!!

If I'm not mistaken, you should have a circa-2001 iBook G3, which means it should come with 2 USB ports and 1 Firewire port. If that's the case, you can use USB- or Firewire-based devices to solve your problem.

Some devices that are available:
- Eskape Labs MyCapture II
- El Gato EyeTV
- Ben Software BTV

Personally, I wouldn't go for USB-based video capture devices unless its for basic (persona/home) video projects. The quality isn't the greatest.

The best would be a Firewire-based video camera to feed it directly onto your iBook.

As for the battery, you can get one from the Apple Store (but of course! ), Outpost, Dr. Bott, MacWarehouse, and so on.
