Well I have been lurking around this forum for the past couple of days and thought I would post something.
I have been a PC user for a long time and for the past 5 years or so I have been working as a UNIX Systems Admin on Solaris.
I have a PC that I put together and am conneted to the 'net via DSL at home. I have put in a wireless hub.
I have been considering getting a laptop with wireless connectivity so more than one of us can use the DSL connection as well as using it for school with I will be restarting next year.
I have done some research and spoke with a couple of friends and I am going to make the switch.
This weekend I will be heading to the Apple Store to pick up a 12 inch IBook.
Any other suggestions?
I will reply again with what I got and what I think about it.
David

Excellent choice. iBook with Airport Extreme built-in is a good value.
As you are a UNIX administrator, you will like the Mac OS X's unix core.

I recently jumped from windows to mac. It's been a pretty enjoyable experience so far (mind you, i haven't fully explored iLife yet) Webbrowsing in Safari seems much faster than IE. The basic applications that I utilize (MS Office and GIMP) don't seem too different or better. However, the interface of OS X, including the novel function buttons (primarily F9 and F10) are brilliant and too perfect for words. As I am running off a 12" iBook, this counteracts the need for a larger screen! Anyhow, I hope you enjoy your experience as much as I do.

If you're getting the 12" iBook make sure you ask for 60 GB hard drive instead of the stock 30, otherwise if you decide later you want a larger HD it will cost you a lot more.
Let us all know when you get your new iBook, we'd love to hear your impressions.

PowerBook 12" Combo 1.5Ghz 1.25GB Ram 100GB HDD - Yep it's PPC! I'll wait for the 3rd generation MacTel when they're at their best :)

Agreed. OS X with all the apps you get takes up ~10 gigs by itself which leaves you around only 18 gigs for free space. I ended up buying an external firewire drive that I do all my heavy work on (it's faster than the internal) and just use the internal for light apps.
