this is for max ram on a 933MHZ G4 ibook. We have all been told that 640MB is the max. But I had heard rumors and such of one with 1.12 gigs of ram. so I thought that I would post this to show that it truly is possible. the biggest thing is that you make sure it is compatible and you should be fine. mine has not had any problems and actually seems a little faster than the previous 640MB that I had. here is a pic for proof. i had been told that you might not notice a differenc but I sure do

Could be from a 933 MHz Power Mac, though.

Whether one notices a difference to 640 MB or not depends on the kind of work that is done.

meh, might as well post it twice.

marine-

screenshots-
• cmd(apple)-shift-3 for the whole screen
• cmd-shift-4 for a selection
• cmd-shift-4 *then hit spacebar* little camera shows up and you can take a screenshot of a single window.
NOTE: all three methods drop a .pdf on your desktop, but preview.app works great to convert to .jpg.

and your sig is too tall. 200x50 is the limit on sigs.

other than that though, its nice to see that it is possible to put a gigger in the first g4s.

hoo-ah.

Yeah, I already knew that... just about any Mac with DDR slots can use 1 GB modules. eMacs, iBooks, and so on. Even if they're only *officially* supported for 512 MB in each slot.

The exception is the MDD PowerMac G4s, which can take 1 GB modules, but are limited to 2 GB even though they have four slots.

Of course, you know this means I'll have to ask for some RAM for Christmas now, right? XD

(I have the same model iBook as you, MARINEOSX, and whilst I've heard it was possible to up the RAM that far, I've never actually seen proof until now. ^^; Thanks!)

the brand is so dimm and it was 199.95. I have been told that they acctually invented ram so figured I would try it. It is working great so far. This also means that i have a 512 stick available if any one is looking. I cant remember the brand but I know it has a liftime warranty on it i still have the packaging somewhere. If anyone is intrested.

Actually, SO DIMM is the type of RAM in notebooks. In the iBook G4's case, it is more specifically DDR266 200-pin SO DIMM. And RAM was invented wayyyyy before they even had notebooks. RAM has been around since the first computers.

Don't take it too serious. Of course didn't I suggest that you were lying. What would you get out of it?

But I was wondering how you would react, and I can say that I find it quite funny that you really put a sysprofiler pict for proof up… nice!

Old news. There's been other threads on the G4 iBooks being able to add a 1GB stick. I had one fine in my G4 1Ghz ice book before going to a PB17.

Well I was told by the sales rep that the company that produced the so dimm was called so dimm. lmao! But they could be wrong after all that store is in my opinion very stupid and sometimes they dont know what they are talking about! They even told me it is imposible to upgrade the hard drive in an iBook. Silly them! thanks for the info on the memory. Sorry if you thought i was taking it seriously i just wanted to show you that it could be done and the LOL is the part wher i was laughing.

LMAO!

Well, I just ordered a 12" iBook from Amazon and it should be here in 2-3 weeks. My question is should I max out my ram with the 1 gig chip or just go with the 512meg chip? Marine, did you notice that much improvement going from 512-1gig or was it just the idea of having it under the hood that made it feel like it was?

Also, where can I get a 1gig chip that won't cost me an arm or a leg?

Thanks in advance!

I a not sure if you have this store in your area but you can order it online i believe? Any way this is where I got my 1gig module it was 199.95 I did notice an increase in speed as well. For example when I load my 2000 songs it takes about a second no beachball nothing it opens instantly. I have noticed a speed increase with all the applications when i open them or do anything in them.

you are welcome and I hope it helps. I also have a 512 stick laying around now. It is centon brand pc2700 if anyone is interested.
