Hello everyone. For the last few months the hard drive in my 1.33 Ghz 17" Powerbook was making a ticking sound, and last week it finally stopped working.

I ordered a replacement drive, and according to the model number it should be the exact same 80 Gig 5400 RPM drive I already had (so I assume it's fully compatable). The drive I am trying to get OSX reinstalled on is model# HTS548080M9AT00, Hitachi/IBM 80GB 5400RPM. Here is a link if its of any help.

My problem is trying to install OSX on the new disk. When I boot off the OSX Panther 10.3 CD, the installer runs up to the the point where you can select the disk you want to install on to. But the new hard drive has a red icon over it, and it won't let me install on it. I trying erasing, partitioning, etc in disk utility and still have the issue. I am hoping I am just missing some step in preparing the drive? Any sugestions on how I can get this going? My Powerbook has been down now for over a week and I want to get it working ASAP. Thanks a million for any help!!!
