i'm attempting to connect a powerbook g4 12" to a g3 snow white imac using a firewire cable from an original 5 gig ipod... yet it isn't being seen. is there some incompatability in here that i can't see the powerbook from the imac?

edit: ive tried booting the imac in 9.2.2 instead of 10.1 and it tells me the disk is unreadable, but i can initalize it and lose all data if i want

are you doing it correctly?
connect the fw cable.
power up the machine you want to be the master (where the other's hd will mount).

power up the second machine holding the "t" key; should show a firewire symbol floating around the screen.

that mac's HD should mount on the desktop of the main machine...

drag files around, etc...

yes, i know how to do firewire target mode, thank you
the drive is not seen under 10.1 and 9.2.2 asks me to initalize it and destroy all data

ive got a keys out of order error on the powerbooks drive, i wanted to attempt to run diskwarrior from another mac.

the machine boots, however most of my files are not appearing, i get logged in to a default desktop, and OS X will not mount any CDS/firewire drives/etc. I really just want to get my data off here without having to trek to an apple store

well, booting diskwarrior on the imac (the powerbook was kernel panicking when attempting to boot the DW cd) was able to see the drive in target disk mode, so it's attempting to repair it now
