Not so sure about Apple's warranty policy in the States, but here in Germany replacing the hard drive in the ibook will void the warranty (unless performed at an Apple authorized service provider).
Yes it will. You can have a certified Apple tech install it and this will maintain your warranty for a unreasonable fee ofcourse (usually $80-$120 US).
