Hi
I have good offer to buy 800Mhz iBook with 128MB RAM, 30GB HDD, 32MB ATi Radeon in perfectly good condition.
Can you tell me two things
1. Is this enough for normal work with OS X (browsing internet, playing music, maybe movies etc) + sometimes I will use photoshop, illustrator and flash [not in the same time of course ] ?
2. Guy that sells it says that it has only cd-rom drive, not combo. My friend tells me he thinks that models can't have only cd, they must have combo. I will go to see that mac tomorrow or day after tomorrow, but untill then, does anybody knows are there 800Mhz iBook models with only cd rom or that guy is wrong?
Thank You

Hi there,
1. That machine will need more RAM, period. You should add 512 MB .
2. Yes, there are "CD-only" iBooks. They are a special configuration for the educational market.
I have that model as our "lab laptop" . It came with 256 MB RAM and I added 512. It is by no meanss a speed demon, but it has handled everything we have thrown at it.
It was my introduction to the Mac world.
Good luck,
JT

yep, Macs and PCs use the same kind of ram. You're looking for DDR 200-pin PC 2100 SDRAM. www.newegg.com seems to have good prices.

Try RamSeeker. They track RAM prices. You could also use my favorite price seeking website, PriceWatch
