I am helping a friend who uses his Pismo (OS 9) for high level audio work. He normally hooks up his amplifier/speakers to the audio out port. Recently he's been getting a lot of static, especially when the jack that is plugged into the port moves, even the slightest bit (e.g. even just typing while the music is playing, which he needs to do). I tried zapping the PRAM and starting up from a CD (to rule out extensions conflicts or corrupted preferences, etc.) but neither helped. Is there anything else to try. If it is a hardware problem would the problem be with the sound card, as opposed to the logic board. Could a sound card from a Lombard be used. (I have a broken Lombard that I could salvage the sound card from.) I checked the service manuals for both the Pismo and Lombard and the sound cards have different part numbers, but does that mean that a Lombard sound card can't be used? Thanks for any help.

this happened to me a few years ago...
researched it...
seems a common pismo problem.
hardware: the soundboard (which also has the ac).

i bought a board on ebay, had a tech install it.

not sure about the lombard part, but you want to be sure it's compatible
(and my guess is it's not...)

good luck!
