I just purchased the 12" ibook from amazon.com, after all is said and done (rebates and sell the printer) I got it for in the low $700's . So cheap that I couldn't resist.

It'll be my first mac since some kind of Macintosh Classic something that my uncle gave to us a long long long time ago.

Very excited, I always wanted a powerbook but the no-upgrade situation detered me. This should tide me over till rev b G5 powerbooks come out

Haha anyways it'll sit on my desk next to my Thinkpad X31. Two 12" laptops, one black and one white.

Funny thing is I've lived literally 10 mins away from Apple HQ in cupertino all my life, this is my first mac.

Congrats guys on the new 'books! I just got mine last weekend - I drove 4.5 hours 1 way to an apple store to pick it up! I was so delighted...I love it!!! It's my first new Mac in six years so I was due for one. I always wanted a laptop so now I'm in heaven.

Now if only I could get around to getting some more ram...

if you can put a pc2700 in them. it would be a faster ram upgrade you will most likely notice a difference. Also congrats and enjoy let us know what you think about your new iBook.

Believe me I understand about that long drive to an apple store! Until they built the Charlotte, NC store I was between 2 apple stores each was 4 hours way! I drove to the Durham store to pick up my powermac MDD dual 1 gig then turned around drove straight home so I could just go on to work that night! Arrrg what a day that was!

Congrats on your purchase! You'll love the portability. I do and will probably always own a laptop now.

Not really. The PC2700 RAM will run at PC2100 because the iBook's bus is limited at 266, which corresponds to PC2100.

When you bought it off Amazon, did you do the 30 off from the credit card? If so, did you have to wait awhile for the card to come in the mail? Mine still had to be processed by Bank One and it would take 1-2 weeks.

this is correct. the computer will see it as 2700 but runs only at 2100 speed.

if the pc 2700 isn't faster than the 2100 in the iBook then why spend the money for the 2700, even if it is only 512MB? I don't quite understand this. Especialy because the ibook is designed to handle 2700 isn't it? I am a little confused on this matter. I understand that it would clock down but the frontside bus on 2100 is 133mhz and the ddr side is 266mhz so would the 2700 go to 266mhz or to 133mhz? I had been put under the impression that the 2700 would be faster. Any help would be apreciated.

I was approved automatically. Got an email and everything. It even had the amazon card selected for me when I was checking out.

I haven't been approved yet either. I wonder what's up. I'll call that number tomorrow. There's nothing wrong with my credit.

... 5 minutes later-
"Your Amazon.com Platinum Visa Card is now ready"

looks like I'll be added to the amazon iBook wait list

2700 is techinically faster but the ibook wasn't designed to use 2700. Typically your motherboard clocks the 2700 down to 2100. if it was the case that the ibook was designed for 2700, do you think they would have put 2700 in it? There is typically no major cost difference between 2100 and 2700.

The 2700 has an effective 333MHz ( i believe), but typically it's slowed down to 266MHz. No sweat, it's not too noticible.
