hey guys, i'm a mac-user on a windows laptop...i know i know, it sucks, and as a college student, i don't exactly have a lot of money, so i want to make my powerbook buy the best possible, i.e. i don't want to have to purchase tiger seperatly when it comes out next year.
what sort of powerbook updates are you guys expecting before or around the arrival of tiger? i'm a beginning programmer and am really interested in xcode 2.0, which is why i'm waiting for tiger. i'm just looking for some educated views on possible powerbook upgrades. thanks a lot

I think you mean "educated guesses." Nobody here has a precise understanding of what will be released and when. Of cousre, we can all speculate about dual core G4s and/or G5s in 2005....

I suggest waiting until 10.4 comes out and then getting whatever is avaiable at that time.

Hang in there on that Windoze machine!

I expect new PowerBooks to ship with Tiger, in Jan/Feb.

After updating the iBooks recently, Apple made it public that they do not intend to revamp the PowerBook line this year. Wouldn't count price drops out though.

If you can afford to wait, go ahead and wait.

If you can't afford to wait out the storm and need to get work done then get the best one you can afford. We can't always get hung up on waiting for future products unless you know that there might be something in January. If we waited for "the next big thing" then we'd probably wait forever.

My hunch is to look for something to happen in January - possibly speed bumped PBs. That would be the best time. When they announce the new PBs, you should be able to get great sales on the current PBs as vendors try to clear out stock.

In any case, Tiger will work with all the current PBs, PMs, and iMacs.
