I'm having trouble opening some but not all documents or websites that are PC produced with my MAC

Any suggestions on what software is reasonably priced, and is easily installed on my new ibook 14" sd.....so I will no longer have t his problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

It's going to be different for every file type. What kinds of files are you trying to open?

I don't always know that the problem....some of them are from forums that I belong to....are you telling me that there is no one piece of software/hardware that will convert everything for me?

Only VirtualPC can handle everything, but that's not ideal. If you're more specific (graphic files, spreadsheets, etc.) we can help you find a Mac program to handle them or convert them.

Sorry, I'm a real nerd when it comes to this type of thing.....sometimes its pictures, sometimes websites that have articles or pictures, sometimes just documents.....that people post.......

Is that anymore helpful...? sorry......

But I would like some program that would do it all, including spreadsheets, graphics, etc because eventually I will be getting into that

I think the one piece of software you are looking for is Windows.

If you really don't want to tackle each thing individually, here's a link to Virtual PC.

How do you know that a) the sites/documents/pictures you have problems with were produced with Windows? and b) that the real problem is that the materials were from a Windows machine, and not some other cause?

It's really hard to figure something out when we have only a fairly vague description of the problem. If you could keep records for a day or so, with URLs and links that don't work, we might be able to track this thing doen and help you better.

So far at my house, the only things I've seen not work on our iBook that work on our Windows machine are some animations on Weather.com, and some Flash stuff on Royal Caribbean's site. I'm a little skeptical that the problem is the platform that the files came from.

I guess you should post here a few link to these docs so that we can see what they are.... You should be able to open most of them...

I have two Macs and two windows machines and I rarely have problems viewing files on either platform.
I commonly view the following files on both machines:
.jpg
.raf
.tif
.gif
.doc
.xls
.pdf
.zip

Which web browser do you use to view web pages? Some pages are not compatible with Safari but will work with Internet Explorer.
60GB iPod Photo
350Mhz G3 B/W Tower 448MBRAM 7GB 40GB DVDRW OSX 10.3
XP2700 1GBRAM TI4200 40GB 200GB SATA RAID 1

From what I've read, the problem is that many websites are written with the assumption that the user will be using Internet Explorer for Windows, instead of writing the site to ensure compliance with multiplatform standards. You could try using a different Mac browser (Safari/OmniWeb/Opera/Camino/Firefox/Mozilla/or even IE) to see if that worked better.

By the way (this is one of my pet peeves), both letters in PC are capitalized because PC is an acronym for Personal Computer . Mac is an abreviation for Macintosh, so you don't capitalize all three letters.

or if you like you can just not capitalize anything : )
