I know this is ancient technology but I'm selling this powerbook which had working ethernet before i reinstalled OS 8.6. I thought i would do the new owner a favor and give them a fresh OS, but with that, the ethernet isn't recognized! I've scoured the extentions, and have even replaced the new extension folder with the old one, and it still doesn't work.

Does anyone remember if there is a specific driver or something on the 1400cs cd that would make it work? I don't know if the ethernet was standard or an add-on.

Your wisdom is appreciated.

You need a driver (an extension) for the specific card that you have installed. If it's a PCMCIA card, you can read the brand off of it and find a driver. If it's internal, you might be able to find the card name from Apple Profiler or something like that.

If it's a port on the back it's an internal add-on (none came standard). It's a combination video/ethernet card, probably made by Farallon.
He can be fixed -- you can't.

Thanks so much for the reply. It is internal for sure and i don't believe it is one of the video/ethernet combos. I've checked the System Profiler and it is ".Focus ValueNet Ethernet" (sounds real high-end!)

That is a great help thanks. Maybe i can find an extension with that name or the drivers online. If you have suggestions let me know. Thank you!
