So I wanted to thank all you guys for helping me decide what mac to get.... I ended up getting the iBook G4 14" 1.33 GHz with a 80 GB HD and Bluetooth from the Apple Store... and it's supposed to ship by friday!

I still have to buy ram though.... and I'm wondering, does anyone see a need to buy a gigabyte stick, or should 512mb be enough? Remember, I'm a poor college student.

Edit: It looks like i can get 512 crucial memory for under 100 or 1gb kingmax (???) for under 200.... theres no way i can afford the gig of crucial unless anyone knows where i can get it cheaper. considering this....which one should i get?

An extra 512 is a must. Get 1GB if you plan any labor-intensive tasks, photoshop, digtial stuff, etc. No reason handicapping your nice setup by not having enough memory to handle tasks.

I'm going for the 1gig Kingmax, myself. I've never heard of the brand, but
1.) people seem to be doing alright with it.
2.) it's cheap at newegg
3.) it's got a lifetime warranty.

I *always* buy crucial, but $350's too much for me to be spending on a gig of RAM. For me, the lifetime warranty on the Kingmax RAM was enough to push me over.

I bought the same kingmax 1gb stick and it's working fine in my 12" iBook (also new model). It's really easy to install and boosts speed nicely. Just out of curiosity, I opened all the programs on the default dock menu and afterwards I still had >200 Mb to spare. Having 1.25gb is worth it, in my opinion.

I put a extra 512Mb Crucial stick in my G4 1ghz iBook...

It runs photoshop and indesign very well indeed, and also World of Warcraft like a champ!

I hate to say it, as I know you can never have enough RAM (3gig+ in my G5), but if there is little intensive usage, is a 1ghz stick overkill?

Can I have that link for the 1gig kingmax stick?
The only diff between these two is one 2100 and 2700,will I see a diff in either on the new iBook?

Just wondering, so WoW works well with your 1Ghz 768MB ibook? I thought that the min specs for WoW was 64MB VRAM. If so, that bit of info would help me further my pb or ibook purchase decision.

Also, how are the graphics on your ibook? You are using the 12" right? Sorry for going a bit off tangent.

I just got my iBook 2 days ago, and I bought some extra RAM to go with it. I bought a 512 stick of RAM, and holy cow it makes everything faster! I would definitely go with AT LEAST 512 MB of RAM.
