Hello all, i have a question. I currently own a 15" 1.25 G4 Powerbook, and i have the option of trading it for a new G5 iMac 17". Now im just wondering whats the better deal. I mean i know the G5 is faster, but it also lacks a good graphics card compared to the powerbook. Will the G5 really be that much faster and worth sacraficing the mobility of a laptop? I usually always have my powerbook sitting on my desk anyways, but the option of being mobile is there and i like that. What are ur thoughts. Thanks for any help.

If you don't need the mobility go with the iMac. I would say go with the 17" and then buy an iBook. But that's just me.

I also second the idea of getting the iMac G5 for your heavy duty work and then get an iBook for your portability needs. This way, you have a computer best suited for each situation (power in the iMac and portability in the iBook).

Get an Airport card for both Macs so that you can easily transfer files back and forth.

But because your lifestyle doesn't seem to require mobility, you may not be missing much. It's like this 100 piece toolbox I have in the garage. I like having it but it was an ultimate waste of money because I never used it.
