I sold my Ti-400 to my girlfriend over a year ago and she has had no problems with it until about 6 months ago.

Basically she is typing in either MS Word or Safari and it gives her the total freeze. I did a totally new install of Panther and her software and it still does it.

And now the screen is often totally black upon wake up or restart.

I ran the hardware test off of the CD and it found nada.

I feel very bad as she does not have the money to get it repaired.

I do seem to remember someone saying that hitting the keyboard on a particular key will cause it to KP if a wire is being crimped under the frame?????

It is a ti-400 with 1GB of ram, 60GB 5,400 rpm drive running OSX 10.3.6.

Any ideas?

start up from a panther install CD, then run disk utility (it's in the menu bar)... click repair disk... check that.. could be directory corruption.... could be more... I assume it freezes when she's typing because that what she mainly uses it for and not because that's how to trigger the freeze...
